This house is a new build designed into the edge of a slope. The sits in between two roads that join to a point with the main entrance on the upper ground level and a garage entrance accessed easily from the lower road.
The Kiwi Birdlife Park is a conversation park based in New Zealand. Due to external factors, they required their kiwi to be relocated to another site. Taking in to consideration not only building regulations but also animal welfare standards, a team of us (the park wildlife manager, myself & the architect) developed this design.
For a basic walk-through video of the space please click HERE.
Further to assisting in design of the building and external spaces, I was also responsible for designing of the full signage package for the 12m exhibition & education wall (click HERE to see signage).
*Kiwi are nocturnal birds and therefore kept in the park in specially designed nocturnal houses. Their days and nights are swapped so that visitors can view the kiwi during the day.*
The best part of my retail design experience comes from my time working at Lush Handmade Cosmetics.
The design of all Lush stores are based on London Borough Market in the UK, influenced by the market style stools. Lush has its own wood-shop, whom I worked closely with to design and build the bespoke furniture pieces, designed specifically for the unique product range offered at their stores.
I worked on both full new design & builds as well as renovating existing stores, creating a full drawing set including plans, elevations, RCPs & furniture drawings.
This was part of a new outdoor shopping mall in Kentucky, USA. The "L" shaped space with wide storefront gave me the chance to create a dramatic storefront with the use of suspended crates and steel-work.
Designed storefront, interiors & fixtures. Project managed full process from design to opening.
Assisted in the design of store exterior, interior & fixtures.
This was an expansion of the existing store, expanding into the vacant unit next door creating Vancouver's flagship Lush store. The design consisted of unique fixtures and well as some salvaged antique items.
I was tasked to transform this event space for a science-based prize giving night. We were able to transform the space by using CAD/CAM cut shapes, handcrafting DNA structures and projecting lights and shapes across the room.
Developed design and project managed fit-out.
This was a large company event set in the middle of the Black Rock Desert, Arizona. I worked alongside the events team to create the event space for 500 staff. My role was design lead, ensuring we had suitable tenting, working on the layout of the space & creating the large entrance (photographed here).
KIWI BIRDLIFE PARK
I used the park colours to design the 12m x 1.2m signs including the illustrations for the storyboard and large images of the extinct birds.
I used adobe creative suite to develop the graphics for both print and web purposes.
The park already had a colour scheme they wanted to use. Being a conservation park I had to work within a strict budget.
The graphics here I developed for use at a design fair.
